It’s a Tie: Liverpool Held to a Goalless Draw by Man United
Things were very tense as we all were glued to our screens to see if Liverpool would give us another episode of Anfield Annihilation as they went up against Manchester United at Anfield. The game started well, with Liverpool pressing like a greyhound that had just been let loose. Their efforts didn’t amount to much, however, as they were held to a goalless draw by the ‘Red Devils’.
Diogo Dalot’s Double Yellow for Dissent
Perhaps the most interesting thing to happen in the matchup pitting the two giants against each other was a double yellow for Diogo Dalot that was a result of two quickly followed-up incidents of dissent. Come 90 + 4′ Dalot was not at all happy for being denied a throw-in and swung his arms twice in dissent against the match referee. The ref didn’t at all take it well and quickly issued two yellow cards in quick succession, sending Dalot off the pitch.

Erik ten Hag as We’ve Always Imagined Him
The match was also a good example of just how good a manager Erik ten Hag is. Man United had just been back from a UCL defeat that saw them kicked off the Champions League, but chinned up and didn’t let Liverpool get any balls behind the net.
Onana Clean Sheet
This was also a moment to salute goalkeeper Andre Onana, formerly an Ajax player, for his swift saves and the ability to waylay recent pressure and perform well. Onana maintained a clean sheet in the game and it was not for lack of Liverpool trying. ‘The Reds’, on their part, played a solid game but couldn’t find the back of the net despite being the dominant team all through the game.

Arsenal Top of the League Table After Beating Brighton
Unlike the goalless duel of giants, Arsenal’s match against Brighton saw them rise to the top of the Premier League table after they beat Brighton 2-0 in what was a fantastic display of strength. Arsenal recently qualified for the UCL Round of 16 and continued their fantastic run in the EPL.
Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz for Goal
Gabriel Jesus opened the scoring for ‘The Gunners’ in the 53rd minute before German Kai Havertz scored his first home goal for Arsenal in the 87th minute. Roberto De Zerbi’s men couldn’t do much but watch, as Arsenal took away the lead and propelled themselves to the top spot in EPL Standings.

Manchester City Draw Crystal Palace
Man City, the defending champs, weren’t sizzling with vitality as Arsenal were and drew Crystal Palace 2-2 in EPL GW 17. Jack Grealish opened the scoring for City in the 24th minute before Rico Lewis made it two in minute 54. As if in a rejoinder of realization that their goliath isn’t all that strong, Crystal Palace quickly equalized led by a Jean-Philippe Mateta strike in the 76th minute and Michael Olise’s penalty conversion in 90 + 5′.

City are now 4th in EPL Standings and a good 6 points behind league leaders Arsenal. More EPL Standings below.
Chelsea Beat Sheffield United
Chelsea, now starting to show a spark, beat Sheffield United 2-0 in EPL GW 17 thanks to fantastic goals from new signings Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson. Palmer netted his fantastic goal in the 54th minute before Nicolas Jackson made it two for ‘The Blues’ in the 61st minute. Chelsea have been playing satisfactorily well of late and it is exciting to see that finally, Mauricio Pochettino’s smarts are beginning to show. There’s even talk that Chelsea are eyeing Victor Osimhen in the January transfer window.

Newcastle Beat Fulham
Newcastle, who’d recently been thrashed by Tottenham, were out baying for blood as they beat Fulham 3-0 in EPL GW 17. Lewis Miley opened the scoring for Newcastle in the 57th minute, minutes before Miguel Almiron made it two come the 64th minute. Dan Burn wasn’t to be left behind and netted Newcastle’s third in the 82nd minute.

The team, now well into their zone, played really well and we are excited to see how Eddie Howe will navigate the remaining gameweeks in the EPL. Newcastle were last week kicked off the UCL by Inter Milan and can now concentrate on positioning themselves for another UCL qualification this season.
Other EPL GW 17 Results
In other EPL GW 17 results, Tottenham beat Nottm Forest 2-0, as did Everton who also beat Burnley 2-0. West Ham beat Wolves 3-0 and Aston Villa beat Brentford 2-1. The match between Bournemouth and Luton Town was suspended after Luton Town captain Tom Lockyer collapsed on the pitch. He’s still being treated.
