Paris 2024 Closing Ceremony Highlights
Celebrating the Marathon Pour Tous
The Closing Ceremony celebrated the Marathon Pour Tous, where 20,024 runners participated in a marathon and another 20,024 in a 10km race on the streets of Paris and Versailles, following the official Olympic marathon course. This mass-participation event was a first for the Olympic Games. Video highlights from the public races were showcased during the ceremony.
Recognizing the Foundations of the Olympic Games
In a tribute to the origins of the Olympic Games, the Greek flag is raised, and the national anthem of Greece is played. This traditional protocol is given a unique twist by Thomas Jolly, who seamlessly integrates it into the show. The segment takes the audience on a journey through Pierre de Coubertin’s revival of the ancient Games in the late 1800s, highlighting the rich history and foundation of the Olympics.

He highlighted the diversity and inclusivity of the Games, noting that they were the first to achieve full gender parity and were fully aligned with the Olympic Agenda reforms. Bach described the Paris 2024 Games as “Seine-sational.” Bach earlier shared that he would be retiring and these would be his last Olympics as IOC President.

♂️ Men’s 1500m Final Reactions – Paris 2024
Gold Medalist: Cole Hocker (USA)
“That’s an unbelievable feeling. I just felt like I was getting carried by the stadium and God. My body just kind of did it for me. My mind was all there and I saw that finish line. Winning gold was my goal this entire year. I wrote that down and I repeated it to myself even if I didn’t believe it. My performances showed me that I was capable of running 3:27, whatever it took. I knew I was a medal contender, and I knew that if I get it right, it would be a gold medal. I’ve been saying that.“

Silver Medalist: Josh Kerr (GBR)
“I just had to wait, I was gonna wait for 120 to go, did that and got pushed out obviously into lane two or three and that was the story on the inside. So look, fastest run ever in British history, fastest run, best 1500m performance I’ve put together so can’t walk away with anything but being proud. You know, I won all my battles today. I just didn’t quite get the medal I was looking for, but it’s progress, bronze to silver.“
Fourth Place: Jakob Ingebrigtsen (NOR)
“I opened with a 54-second lap. That wasn’t the plan at all, it was at least two seconds too fast. I was thinking about slowing down, but the next lap was almost the same speed. I ruined it for myself by going way too hard.” [Source: Olympics.com]
The Norwegian also posted on social media congratulating his rivals. “My team always say that because you have a big mouth and is the one to beat, you have everything to lose in competitions. Today, Cole Hocker, Yared Nuguse, and Josh Kerr outsmarted me,” he wrote. “They were the best guys when it really mattered. And I want to congratulate them all on a great performance!“
