Kenyan youth, through the Gen Z protests, have taken the world by storm as they joined hands to mount a behemoth resistance against the current regime in the country. A lot has happened since day one of the then Anti-Finance Bill 2024 protests, which now evolved into a call for a dissolution of the government.
Featured: Learn How You Can Secure Your Internet Connection Using a VPN
It’s been the case that the internet will be targeted and slow down whenever there are protests in the country. In these situations, protestors are not only denied a reliable internet connection to disseminate news but they are also denied an avenue to air out their concerns.
To ensure this does not happen, and to protect their data while partaking in protests, protestors need a reliable VPN. A VPN will not only avert the slow and usually unreliable internet speeds but also protect their identity online and hide their IP addresses. That is where NordVPN comes in.
NordVPN is a powerful VPN and Cyber Security provider that helps you stay safe on the web by keeping your data safe.
To secure your data, consider subscribing to one of NordVPNs plans and rest assured that hackers will not get hold of your data and use it for nefarious activities while enriching themselves.

Gen Z Hero: Slain Gen Z Protestor Denzel Omondi Buried
Denzel Omondi, the protestor who was killed by police in the first round of protests was buried today. His body had been found in a dam in Juja, where he was attending the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, JKUAT. Denzel was a third-year Quantity Surveyor student at the university. His death led to protests in Juja and a lot of condemnation against the government for the heinous act. May his soul Rest in Eternal Peace. We will remember him as a hero. Viva!
Government Opens Probe into NGOs and Civil Societies Previously Founded by the Ford Foundation
The Kenyan government opened a probe to investigate Kenyan NGOs and civil societies previously funded by the Ford Foundation. Documents on the organizations were forwarded to the DCI for investigation.

The organizations were accused of funding the current Gen Z protests by President Ruto. The government is pursuing this onslaught through the Public Benefits Organization Act’s governing body.
Kenyans have, however, termed the probe as President Ruto’s way to try and intimidate the organizations after his unproven accusations that they have been funding Gen Z protests.
Postmortem Report Indicates 4 Protestors Killed by Police Bullets
Postmortems were conducted on 4 slain protestors in various morgues today. The resulting reports indicate that they were killed by police bullets during Tuesday’s protests last week. Two of the protestors had been recorded as having died in road accidents. The postmortems, however, confirm that indeed the four were victims of police killings, disproving claims that two of them died in vehicle accidents.

In a letter of response, the Ford Foundation told the government to check its website: fordfoundation.org, as they have extensively detailed what organization received what amount, and for what project. The organization also said that their website contains a grant database with more details.

The police stopped the #OccupyUhuruPark protests that were planned by Gen Zs today. Gen Zs had hoped to occupy Uhuru Park in Nairobi. The proposed occupation was inspired by the Tahrir Square occupation in Egypt, during the Arab Spring, which led to the ouster of President Hosni Mubarak.
In response to plans by Kenyans to occupy Uhuru Park and camp there until President Ruto addresses their concerns, police have now banned protests in Nairobi and its surroundings.

Kalonzo Musyoka Meets with Other Azimio-One Kenya Coalition Leaders Opposed to a Coalition with President Ruto
Kalonzo Musyoka today met with his fellow Azimio-One Kenya leaders opposed to a ‘Coalition of National Unity’ with Ruto’s regime. Absent at the meeting was ODM leader Raila Odinga who’s said to be in support of the coalition, enticed by the ‘goodies’ that it presents. He is said to be keen on ODM getting a few ministerial positions and other benefits.

Gen Zs have been employing ‘salamu’ (greetings) as a way to pressure those in power to make the changes they want. What happens is that the phone number of a politician is shared online, and the people asked to call them or text them, essentially bothering them into accepting what the Gen Zs want.
Yesterday, however, government-paid bloggers released the phone numbers of a few of the anchors of Citizen TV, including Linus Kaikai and Mashirima Kapombe, and that of Royal Media Services owner, SK Macharia and encouraged people to ‘greet’ them. They were perhaps expecting to use that as a weapon against the journalists and pressure them to stop reporting on the Gen Z protests.

July 17th, 2024: Veteran Journalist Macharia Gaitho Abducted
Respected Veteran journalist Francis Macharia Gaitho was, this morning, abducted by police officers and detectives from the DCI. Gaitho says he was trailed from his house and on realizing it, had the idea to seek refuge at Karen Police Station. This is where he was abducted by plain-clothed and uniformed police officers. He was literally abducted in a police station.

What’s even worse, it happened in the presence of his 18-year-old son who not only witnessed the violent abduction but bravely managed to record it also. Gaitho said that he was sandwiched between two individuals, abducted, and whisked to an unknown location but could hear his abductors mention DCI Headquarters in Nairobi. He tweeted this:

Was Gaitho’s Abduction Really a Case of Mistaken Identity?
Gen Zs have disputed claims by the authorities that veteran journalist Macharia Gaitho was abducted due to an instance of mistaken identity. They note that Macharia Gaitho has written a few articles in local dailies where he criticizes the Ruto regime.

Gross Incompetence
It is quite shameful that: firstly, the police and DCI have resorted to abduction instead of undertaking normal arrests with little to no force. Second, what kind of gross incompetence is this that the police are not even aware of the likeness of the actual person they are going after? What nonsensical data were they working on that didn’t at least include a picture of the Francis Gaitho they sought? Shame. A huge shame on the authorities in this country!

— Citizen TV Kenya (@citizentvkenya) July 17, 2024
Essentially, instead of the causes of their deaths being recorded as due to shootings during protests, they were recorded as having died from vehicle accidents. This was done despite most of the bodies having signs of gunshot wounds and gunshot-related injuries. Gen Zs have decried this terming it a police coverup that should be investigated and those responsible prosecuted.
Police Wrongfully Accuse Arrested Protestors of Being Drunk and Disorderly
The police have accused protestors they arrested during yesterday’s protests of being drunk and disorderly in court charges. Gen Zs say that this is yet another tactic the police are using to clamp down on protests. The trumped-up charges were seen and reported on as in the tweet below.

— NTV Kenya (@ntvkenya) July 17, 2024
The events took place following a meeting held by Azimio-One Kenya leaders, who’d sat to discuss two things. One, whether the coalition would undertake the proposed dialogue with the regime, and two, whether they would be part of the proposed coalition government with Ruto.
Why Was Kalonzo Prevented from Speaking?
According to reports, Kalonzo was interrupted and prevented from speaking as he was just about to give resolutions of the meeting he had just been part of alongside other Azimio-One Kenya leaders. It is reported that the goons were ODM leader Raila’s goons and were there at his behest.
Sources say that Kalonzo disagreed with Raila’s view to take part in the proposed national dialogue and to form a coalition with Ruto’s regime. This opposition, it is said, is shared with other leaders of Azimio-One Kenya including NARC Kenya’s Martha Karua, DAP-K’s Eugene Wamalwa, and Jubilee’s Jeremiah Kioni.

As understood, the ODM Party is open to a coalition of national unity or essentially a ‘handshake’ with the president and also to undertaking a national dialogue. The other parties i.e., Kalonzo’s Wiper, Karua’s NARC, Kioni’s Jubilee, and Wamalwa’s DAP-K are said to be opposed to the idea.
President Ruto Gazzettes the Dissolution of 21 Cabinet Secretaries and Appoints Prime Cabinet Secretary Mudavadi as Acting CS in All Ministries
President Ruto has finally gazetted his earlier dissolution of his entire cabinet of 21 Cabinet Secretaries. This ratifies their sacking and finalizes what is one of Gen Zs demands. President Ruto, however, also appointed Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi as the acting cabinet secretary in all ministries, a move that has come under heated criticism from Gen Zs.

To start with, they say that the position of the ‘prime cabinet secretary’ is unconstitutional. They added that Mudavadi should have been fired along with all other CSs. On gazetting him as the acting minister in all ministries, Gen Zs feel it is the administration’s way of strengthening their chokehold on all ministerial activities, probably intending to undertake rampant corruption.

July 16th, 2024: Gen Zs Hold Much-Anticipated #AngukaNayo Protests Across the Country
The Gen Zs were out on the streets in large numbers today, for the much-anticipated #AngukaNayo (get down with it) protests. It was a very long day for most protestors as today’s protests turned out to be quite violent as protestors clashed with the police. There were numerous deaths and injuries reported as police clamped down on the largely peaceful protests with excessive force.
We’ll do something different today and look at protests in each region as follows.

The Demands of Gen Z Protestors Yet to Be Met
The Gen Zs who took to the streets today demanded an ouster of President Ruto chanting “Ruto Must Go!” with the #RutoMustGo almost reaching 2 million posts. There has been growing discontentment with the president especially since he has not gazetted the dissolution of cabinet.

Gen Zs have also raised concerns that even if he refused to sign the Finance Bill 2024, he went on to sign the Appropriations Bill 2024, which indirectly passed the laws within the Finance Bill and is implementing it.

How does EPPRA/ GoK increase fuel levy from sh 18 per litre to sh 25 without public participation and approval by Parliament? And no amendment to the Road Maintenance Fuel Levy Act? Worse, a week after announcing they have shelved the plan!

Continuing Puzzle of Kware Bodies
It has also been a very jarring week for the country following the discovery of at least 9 female bodies dumped in a dump site in Kware, Mukuru kwa Njenga, Nairobi. The DCI announced they had caught two more suspects who would aid in investigations.

Foreign Influence in Gen Z Protests
U.S. Special Forces Plane Tracked Surveilling Nairobi CBD
Something very peculiar happened today as the Gen Z protests were ongoing in Nairobi CBD. Plane tracker websites unveiled a U.S Army Special Forces plane circling Nairobi for the better part of the day. Now, was this plane there to ensure the safety of the U.S. Embassy in Kenya or was there something else?
I’m not joking when I say we had international surveillance planes in the air over Nairobi today#RutoMustGo pic.twitter.com/iHwygBTpOl
— Shad: #DebtAudit (@Shad_khalif) July 16, 2024
Protecting the embassy is the most likely case as, as far as we know, the U.S. Embassy in Kenya had not been asked to evacuate prior to the protests. Therefore, the U.S. Ambassador Meg Whitman was likely there during the day, necessitating extra protection from the U.S. Army Special Forces.
bro we had US airforce pic.twitter.com/ZiyM33r48V
— (@Gachiie_) July 16, 2024
The thing is, though, the Special Forces are serious operators and not just cowboys. We know that Meg Whitman is very close to President Biden and, therefore, is likely to get the big boys to protect her but, could that plane and those soldiers be in the country to protect you know who from something sinister? If so, what then is going on in the background that he feels he is in such a precarious position that he would ask Uncle Sam to give him the best of the best to keep an eye on him?
The US is watching the blatant abuse of human rights by the police ….

If you’re like me and you’ve watched Seal Team, you know that the Special Forces are the tip of the spear and cannot just be spared for any other protection job.
The Role (or Lack Thereof) of the Ford Foundation in the Current Unrest in Kenya
A few days ago, President Ruto blamed the Ford Foundation for sponsoring the Gen Z unrest in the country. The paradox, though, is that in his last state visit to the U.S., he was seen to socialize with George Soros’ son, Alexander. Soros is the man behind the Ford Foundation and if the president is dining with his son, doesn’t that mean they are on good terms?
— David Mania (@daviemaniaa) July 15, 2024
Remember that Ruto was accorded a very exquisite welcome to the U.S., the kind of hospitality only afforded to the ‘big’ presidents and heads of countries. President Biden even went as far as to grant Kenya ‘Non-NATO Ally’ status. One could argue that this is due to Kenya being part of the U.N Security Council but there is seemingly more than meets the eye, in my opinion.
Read more opinion articles here
Beyond that, Meg Whitman is very close to Joe Biden and when you factor in the role the IMF has been playing in the current crisis, in the guise of helping Kenya via ‘fiscal policy’ alignment and loans, you start getting a certain picture.
The Ford Foundation could, therefore, be another piece of that puzzle.

Ford Foundation Denies Sponsoring Gen Z Protests
The Ford Foundation released a statement yesterday denying President Ruto’s allegations it was funding anti-government protests in Kenya. The foundation reaffirmed that Gen Zs have a right to demand better governance and reasserted its role in helping Kenya in its leadership role in Africa and beyond.
BREAKING: Ford Foundation denies sponsoring anarchy, violence and chaos in Kenya as claimed by President William Ruto.

What’s Really Being Sought Here?
When you really look into this, you first see the American government on one side siding with Ruto and Soros and the Ford Foundation on the other. Those who understand geopolitics on a macro level will know that Western Countries are very keen to secure minerals, oil, and other natural resources decades earlier before they need them.
As such, could all this be a play for Kenya’s recently discovered oil? Or is it the recently discovered extensive deposits of Niobium and other rare earth minerals worth billions of dollars [$62.4 billion] in Kwale; and presumably also present in other coastal parts of the country? I guess we’ll never know.
Mrima Hills in Kwale has 110million tonnes of Niobium. — Akal E.H Simba (@HonAkalSimba) July 15, 2024
The world is moving towards a growing need for rare earth minerals, especially for technologies like driverless cars, which need these minerals. Rare earth minerals are used to manufacture chips and batteries and will be the ‘diamonds’ of the future. If I were to roll the dice, I’d say that’s what’s being sought. No wonder Kenya was described as a “company”.

July 15th, 2024: The DCI Announce that they’ve Caught the Kware Killings Suspect, Calling Him a ‘Serial Killer’
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations, DCI has announced that they have caught the Kware Killings suspect, terming him a ‘serial killer’. The DCI has said that they caught the individual with a sack containing a body at the dump site, as he was trying to dump it. They have gone further to say that they interrogated the suspect who confessed to the killings of multiple women and having dumped their bodies at the Kware dumpsite.
State-affiliated media outlet The Star says DCI has arrested the alleged serial killer responsible for Kware bodies and have even interrogated him and he has confessed to the killings. pic.twitter.com/aBD22nQgpa
— Cyprian, Is Nyakundi (@C_NyaKundiH) July 15, 2024
The DCI went further to say that the individual, who they named Collins Khalisia, had been responsible for 42 women’s deaths, including those whose bodies were found at the dump site.
Can the DCI produce missing persons reports that align with the theory of the 42 women allegedly killed since 2022? Considering they have the supposed ‘serial killer’ who has allegedly confessed, he should clearly know where he picked up these women from. pic.twitter.com/rGZgP4YLCG
— Cyprian, Is Nyakundi (@C_NyaKundiH) July 15, 2024
Further, the DCI said that the man had gone on a killing spree since 2022 after opening a business for his wife, who later squandered the money and brought it down. Further, the investigators said that the bodies retrieved in Kware were those of victims murdered since 2022.
The DCI then went on to show evidence including the victims’ identity cards, a rope, a laptop, a bloodied machete, several phones, and Airtel 5G sim cards.
So, the abducted and murdered women decided to wear Red Mother union panties that day?

Rising Doubt on the Authenticity of DCI Claims Regarding the Kware Killings
Gen Zs, and Kenyans in general, have expressed doubt on the ‘conveniences’ the story the DCI has presented [to explain the Kware deaths] presents for the authorities.
The @DCI_Kenya have released the name and photo of Collins Jomaisu Khalisia as the so-called “serial-killer” linked to the bodies found at Kware dumpsite.
However there’s no public records of such a name but cross-referencing the image on X reveals that his real name is Jairus… pic.twitter.com/5BRym8u6mt
— Francis Gaitho (@FGaitho237) July 15, 2024
How come the authorities managed to catch the suspect so fast, barely after 48 hours, and how was it that he was back at the scene of the crime to dump more bodies knowing very well the place was under public scrutiny? So much so that it has been the subject of headline news in the country for the past few days.
How is it that the bodies retrieved from Kware are purported to be of the victims killed since 2022 when they are all similarly decomposed with others not decomposed too much, signaling recent death?
Inconsistencies in the Evidence Presented
When it comes to the evidence the DCI presented, how come the ‘serial killer’ started his killing spree back in 2022 while the sim cards shown as evidence are Airtel 5G sim cards which were introduced in the country in 2023?
DCI wanatuletea evidence ya watu wa wash wash those mulot guys, SIM cards and phones hizo ni tools za mtu anafanya bank and sim card swapping fraud. pic.twitter.com/MwGggpP59u
— Queen B (@LizQueenB_) July 15, 2024
Additionally, the laptop the DCI presented as evidence was, reportedly, one from a company that had supplied the uncommon brand (Positivo BGH) to the country’s electoral body, IEBC to conduct a census sometimes back.
Well, someone has just told me this on WhatsApp pic.twitter.com/4bKapWm2mF
— Cyprian, Is Nyakundi (@C_NyaKundiH) July 15, 2024
There are also questions on how the DCI managed to acquire so many IDs of the victims, with most of them looking new and recently printed. The rope they presented also looked new and unused.
There was also a fire burning at the Kware dumpsite, seemingly in a ploy to try and destroy evidence and cripple continuing efforts to find more bodies.

July 14th, 2024: Announced 6-Day of Multisectoral Dialogue Unlikely to Happen
President Ruto’s previously announced ‘6 days of a multisectoral forum’ or dialogue is now unlikely to happen. This is due to a lack of further announcements regarding where, when, and how the dialogue would be conducted. Gen Zs also made it clear that it is not dialogue they are after but concrete changes to how the country is run. Therefore, their clear call for no dialogue might be the reason the talks do not happen.
More Bodies Retrieved from the Kware Dumpsite
More bodies have been retrieved from the Kware dumpsite in Mukuru kwa Njenga, Nairobi.
