Real Madrid weren’t coming to fool around in the second leg of the Copa del Rey Semi-finals as they thrashed Barcelona a decent 4-0 in what seemed like a walkover Copa del Rey El Clasico for them. Barca seemed to lose their way after the halftime break and when Real Madrid sensed their fear, they pounced with everything they had.
A Copa del Rey Walkover for Real Madrid against Barcelona
Barcelona had been showing good progress this season but undid all their progress after suffering a 0-4 loss to Real Madrid in the second leg of the Copa del Rey Semi-finals. Their loss meant that Real Madrid will go on to the Copa del Rey final, thanks to a 4-1 aggregate lead. The game for Real Madrid was a walkover as after the halftime break, they realized a crack in the seams of Barca’s defense and went on to pounce. And pounce they did. Vinicius Jr. opened scoring for Real in added time just before halftime.

A Benzema El Clasico Hat Trick
Karim Benzema wasn’t taking any hostages after the break and scored a well-deserved legendary hat trick. Benzema put in his first in the 50th minute and quickly followed it up with his second in the 58th minute by converting a penalty kick. The lethal Frenchman wasn’t done and came back to bring the game home with a third in the 80th minute.

As this was happening, all I could hear was FIFA (the console game) commentators going “More and More and More!” Benzema is a top-tier player and his performance today was definitely one for the books. Benzema’s hat trick was his 3rd in a row.

A Real Madrid vs Osasuna Copa del Rey Final
Real Madrid’s fantastic win against Barca now means that the stage is set for a Real Madrid vs Osasuna Copa del Rey final. The final is slated to be played on the 5th of May. Today’s loss for Barca effectively kicks them off the tournament. Barca had started to show improvement but I guess it’s back to the drawing board for Xavi Hernandez and his team.
