After being denied a goal by VAR in EPL GW 7, Liverpool showed smarts when they went on to beat Union Saint-Gilloise in Europa League Group Stage Matchday 2. West Ham weren’t left behind and beat SC Freiburg. Here are the results for Europa League Group Stage Matchday 2.
Liverpool Edge Past Union Saint-Gilloise
Liverpool, who’ve had a tumultuous week ever since the controversial goal denial in EPL, showed their smarts by beating Union Saint-Gilloise 2-0.
First Gravenberch Goal for Liverpool
Liverpool’s new signing from Bayern Munich, Ryan Gravenberch put in Liverpool’s first goal in the 44th minute, marking his debut goal for the club. Gravenberch’s goal was a simple tap-in after the USG keeper made a mistake while wading off Trent Alexander-Arnold’s attempt at goal.

Diogo Jota then came on to put in Liverpool’s second in 90 + 2’ in a match that saw brothers Kevin and Alexis Mac-Allister meet in opposing teams for the first time. Liverpool’s performance was fluid, and it seems they are on to make as much impact as possible in all competitions.
West Ham Beat SC Freiburg
West Ham, on their part, beat SC Freiburg 2-1. Lucas Paqueta opened the scoring for ‘The Hammers’ in the 8th minute. Roland Sallai then equalized for Freiburg in the 49th minute, with Nayef Aguerd making it two for West Ham as he went on to score their winning goal in the 66th minute.
Brighton Draw Marseille
Perhaps in a small decline, Brighton drew Marseille 2-2 as both teams proved equally as lethal. Chancel Mbemba Mangulu opened the scoring for Marseille in the 19th minute before Jordan Veretout put in a quick second for Marseille just a minute later.
Brighton’s Pascal Grob then put in Brighton’s first in the 54th minute, before Joao Pedro equalized after converting a penalty in the 88th minute. Unlike Newcastle, Brighton have failed to recapture their last season form and it is still yet unclear how they will fare this season in all competitions.

In another of Europa League Matchday 2 games, Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma beat Servette 4-0, giving a boost to Mourinho’s Europa League campaign. Romelu Lukaku opened the scoring for Roma in the 21st minute.
Andrea Belotti Brace
Andrea Belotti then scored a brace for Roma, netting in his first in the 46th minute. Lorenzo Pellegrini then put Roma 3 goals ahead going on to score in the 52nd minute. Before long, Belotti followed up his first goal with a cherry second in the 59th minute, propelling Roma to a 4-0 lead.

Roma did well this time even as they’ve been slumpy in the recent past.
Villareal Beat Rennes
In another of Matchday 2 games, Villareal beat Rennes 1-0. The winning lone goal came from Alexander Sorloth who scored in the 36th minute. We expected better of Rennes but Villareal proved the mightier team.
