EPL GW 3 quickly came and went with the EPL’s most beloved teams putting on a display of strength. As it now just ended, we are left with a bittersweet moment because what a gameweek it was! Here’s how it went down, with the last match being the most intriguing… try to not scroll to read it first. Promise? Okay.. Twende Kazi!

Chelsea Welcome Luton Town to the EPL ‘The Blues’ Way

EPL Gameweek 3 started with Chelsea welcoming Luton Town to the EPL in a brutal way. Luton got a good serving of the blues, with Raheem Sterling stepping up for Chelsea.

Sterling Brace

Sterling, who was transferred last season from Man City, showed that he’s finally settled at Chelsea and was back to his winning ways with a fantastic brace. Sterling scored his first for Chelsea in the 17th minute, topping it up with a second in the 58th minute.

Sterling did the thing!.. and God knows we can’t help but laugh our faces off on his expression in this picture. Source: Sky.

Chelsea were not done, however, giving Luton Town another goal to analyze, with Nicolas Jackson scoring another for the blues in the 75th minute. The game ended 3-0 in favor of Chelsea, with Luton Town seemingly still getting used to being a big-time club.

Mauricio Pochettinooo… Mauricio Pochettinoooooo

Mauricio Pochettino is finally showing his tactical superiority as finally,,, Chelsea are now showing a glimpse of what it means to have a seasoned and fire-bred manager. Pochettino is a giant when it comes to being a club manager and if Chelsea’s owner Todd Boehly and the entire team at the club support him, then we can see Chelsea contending for the Premier League title very soon.

Spurs Nick Bournemouth

Another coach who’s settling in very nicely at his club is Ange Postecoglou. Tottenham beat Bournemouth 2-0, a tell-tale sign that Ange could be the man to steer the club to greater heights. James Maddison opened the scoring for the COYS (Come On You Spurs) in the 17th minute, with Dejan Kulusevski making it 2-0 in the 63rd minute. Bournemouth were out of their depth on this one and settled for a goalless loss.

Even Maddison and Kulusevski think Sterling was about to tap out! Oh my.. Source: Telegraph.

Arsenal Draw Fulham

As if the stars were absent and not just unaligned for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, they were held to a 2-all draw by Fulham, in what was a hugely disappointing gameweek 3 for them. Bukayo Saka converted a penalty for Arsenal in the 70th minute, with Eddie Nketiah making it two for them with a quick rejoinder in the 72nd minute, but to no avail.

Saka is all about business.. about to bite his tongue off.. or the ball. Source: Arsenal themselvessss!

Fulham’s Andreas Pereira had quickly opened the match for Fulham with a goal in.. wait for it.. the 1st minute, with Joao Palhinha scoring their second in the 87th minute and effectively making nothing of Arsenal’s comeback. Fulham were a 10-man team by this time, with Calvin Basset having been sent off in the 83rd minute.

Should Arteta Quit?

We’ve started to hear calls for Arteta to quit from enraged Arsenal fans but I think Arteta still has some cards up his sleeves. It is so easy to get caught up in the excitement of the first few games of a season, and forget that Arsenal did superbly well last season, and we expect nothing less from Arteta this season. What I’d say to his detractors is.. keep calm, the man Arteta is coming and I am sure he won’t take any hostages.

Man United Cut Down Nottingham Forest

Another manager who’s not letting off anytime soon is Man United’s Erik ten Hag. United cut down Nottm Forest 3-2, in what was a thrilling match to watch. Taiwo Awoniyi quickly opened the scorecard for Nottm in the 2nd minute, with Willy Boly quickly making it two for the foresters (haha) in the 4th minute.

MUFC weren’t at all, shaken (like trees.. huh? haha) and Christian Eriksen scored United’s first goal in the 17th minute, with Casemiro quickly making it two after halftime with his goal in the 52nd minute. United had equalized and they now needed a miracle.

At this point, a fan suggested that they go to the trees and pray but Bruno Fernandes quickly allayed their fears with his 76th minute goal. (I am really having fun with this one!) At this point, Joe Worall had taken the fan seriously and was sent off in the 67th minute (only for him to realize it was a joke to go praying in the forest) ooops!

Bruno Fernandes is shocked that Worall really fell for the joke. Source: The Babe… yes.. there is a football babe.. Babsy.

Will Manchester United Win the EPL 2023-24?

United played really well and like we’ve always wanted them to. Erik ten Hag is now settled at the club and as a Man Utd fan myself, I am glad to report that there is a very high likelihood that we will contend for the Premier League title this season. Just you wait!

3-1 is the Score for West Ham v Brighton and Aston Villa v Burnley

In what was an impressive performance from two teams that have shown real grit and improvement this season, West Ham beat Brighton 3-1 as did Aston Villa who beat Burnley. West Ham and Villa are on fuego and we are yet to piece out where they’ve gotten their newly found strength.

For West Ham v Brighton, James Ward-Prowse opened the scoring for West Ham in the 19th minute, with Jarrod Bowen scoring the second in the 58th minute. Michail Antonio, who was subbed in, scored the third in the 63rd minute. For Brighton, Pascal Grob scored their only reply goal in the 81st minute.

James Ward-Prowse is just having fun with this one. Source: EuroSp.

Come to Aston Villa v Burnley, Matty Cash was in a cashing-in mood.. haha, scoring a brace for Villa; the first goal in the 8th minute and the cherry-second in the 20th minute. Moussa Diaby did the business also, as always, scoring the third for Villa in the 61st minute. Burnley’s Lyle Foster scored their only goal in the 47th minute.

Why are West Ham and Aston Villa So Good? (Like that Verizon deal up there huh πŸ˜‰ haha)

Going back to what has made Aston Villa and West Ham so strong; I think that they have some really dependable players. Villa can always depend on the likes of Michail Antonio to cause some trouble as can West Ham who will always feel at ease, especially with the free kicks, by having James Ward-Prowse. The two teams are doing really well and I won’t be surprised if both end up in the top 10 of the league table this season. See where they are in the EPL Table right now below.

Man City Beat Sheffield United as Wolves Beat Everton, and Brentford Draw Crystal Palace

The Premier League defending champions, Manchester City, are proving rock solid, as ever, and we are not surprised that they beat Sheffield United 2-1. As a Man United fan, I keep wondering whether I went to the wrong street and should have ended up at Man City instead. Point is, they are so dependable when it comes to winning.

Haaland Strikes

Needless to say, City took care of business, with ‘goal machine’ Erling Haaland scoring their first in the 63rd minute and great-cap Rodri scoring their second in the 88th minute. Jayden Bogle scored Sheffield United’s reprieve in the 85th minute, triggering Rodri’s super reaction.

Haaland, after first missing a penalty, was a little distracted with all this forest business and had to clear his eyes to be sure. Source: Goal… well, he didn’t score the penalty did he? Pundits are now realizing he’s just human.

For Wolves v Everton, Sasa Kalajdzic scored the winning goal for Wolves in the 87th minute, with Everton failing to make a reply in the few minutes that remained. Both these teams have stagnated in the recent past and there’s honestly not much to remark about how well or how poorly they are doing. The game ended 1-0 in favor of Wolves.

Come to Brentford v Crystal Palace, ‘The Bees’ stung but Palace apparently already had ingested an antihistamine.. aiyaya!. Brentford drew Crystal 1-1, with Kevin Schade scoring for Brentford in the 18th minute and Joachim Andersen replying for Crystal in the 76th minute.

Liverpool Pull Off the Comeback of a Lifetime Against Newcastle

Perhaps the most intriguing match for EPL GW 3, and by far for that matter, Liverpool pulled off what was a comeback of a lifetime against Newcastle United. We saved the best for last and we are so disappointed that some of you couldn’t keep the promise to not scroll down and read this first. WOW πŸ™

On to the game, things quickly got sticky for Liverpool as Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon opened the scoring for the team in the 25th minute. All through the first half, Liverpool looked shaken, especially after their captain Virgil van Dijk was sent off for denying Alexander Isak a scoring opportunity. Yes,, you heard that right.

Liverpool Captain Sent Off

Van Dijk was shown a red card in the 28th minute and immediately, Liverpool went into a panic. So much so that Jurgen Klopp was up in arms, looking like a German who’d been denied a jug of beer on St. Patrick’s Day. Things were bad for Liverpool!

The Comeback of a Lifetime: This Man Darwin Nunez!

As if in a stroke of fantastic luck, Darwin Nunez then pulled off what was an incredible brace; scoring his first goal in the 81st minute and, in some magic, a second in 90+3 minutes. Nunez stepped up for Liverpool so greatly that after the game, Jurgen Klopp was visibly perplexed and super excited that the man he sent to get a point came back with three.

Darwin Nunez loves this post and he thinks you should read the last sentence and be generous. Source: Goal.. yeah,, he scored a fantastic brace and saved Liverpool from needing a thousand coffees.

Is Mo Salah Leaving Liverpool for Al Ittihad?

Nunez was fantastic and gave the manager something to smile about at a time when today’s game was rumored to be Mo Salah’s last at Liverpool. Al Ittihad, a Saudi ‘Pro’ League club, has allegedly been hot on his heels and reports indicate that his future at Liverpool is all but shaky.

Read on what Klopp thinks of the Saudi league and his view on whether Salah will stay in Liverpool below.

Despite all that, Liverpool did superbly well and their comeback is undoubtedly one for the books. There’s already a lot of debate on whether Van Dijk’s red card was justified but that comes second to Darwin Nunez’s impeccable performance.

EPL Standings after Gameweek 3

Now, (drumrolls please), it may be too early to start reporting on the EPL Table but I think after three gameweeks we can at least get a glimpse.

First on the EPL Standings as it stands now (well.. sit and listen) is.. guess who? Manchester City. City lead the EPL Table with 9 points having won all their three matches so far. They are followed by West Ham who are second with 7 points, after drawing one and winning 2 of their three matches thus far, similar to Tottenham who are third also with 7 points.

Liverpool come in fourth with 7 points also and Arsenal come in fifth also with 7 points. Brighton, Aston Villa, and Man United follow at sixth, seventh, and eighth consecutively, all with 6 points, having won only two of the 3 games played so far. Brentford come in at ninth with 4 points, followed by Chelsea who are tenth (poor Chelsea) also with 4 points.

We’ll end it there for now. Thank you for reading. Well, you’re also welcome and we’d love it if you joined our community. We do this for you as much as we do it for ourselves.

Have a fab week ahead… phew! that was a long one.. take a moment to buy us a coffee. Thanks. Cheers.
