Violent Night is a 2022 movie about Christmas. It is, however, not your ordinary Christmas movie but more of a darker translation of who Santa Claus is and what he is capable of. The movie is hilarious, with very well-done humor, and very suspenseful as you wait to see how Santa will deal with the terrible situation he finds himself in.
A Drunk Santa Claus
Santa, played by David Harbour, is a drunk in Violent Night. He reeks of alcohol and is often looking for something to water his throat. He goes between delivering gifts in such a demotivating way (as if he is never paid for his job), to visiting pubs and getting a jug or two of something liquorish.
Trudy
Trudy, on the other hand, is the daughter of Jason Lightstone and his estranged wife Linda. As is tradition, Trudy and her parents go to visit her grandma Gertrude. They are, however, met with a difficult situation as Gertrude’s mansion is targeted by robbers.
Gertrude Lightstone
Gertrude Lightstone is a very wealthy woman who is very well-connected. She, however, appears bossy and all trash-talking. Her kids fear her and are very anxious to see her for the holidays.
Mr. Scrooge
The robbers, led by Scrooge are gunning for a $300 million payday which they think is in Gertrude’s vault. They seem to be having good intel and come in hot while posing as caterers.
Not Just any Gift Bringing
Santa Claus heads to Gertrude’s house for his usual present-bringing run on Christmas Eve. He is, unfortunately, stuck after he gets too comfortable and a little sleepy after a pint. His reindeer, unfortunately, leave him and he has to contend with the robbers.
A Lethal Nicomund
Santa, previously Nicomund, a warfighter, has to take out the robbers one by one and save Trudy and her family. He always tries to not interfere with peoples’ lives but is forced to give the robbers a run for their money.
Our Rating
Violent Night is an overall thrilling Christmas movie that breaks away from the tradition of joy and glitter, to a more sinister view of who Santa Claus is and what he is capable of. We loved the movie for how hilarious it was and how original the idea and plot were. We give it an 8/10 and would recommend that you watch it. Enjoy.
