The newly released foldable phone from Oppo, the Oppo Find N2 Flip is a top-of-the-line foldable flip phone that is only topped by Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 4. The N2 Flip is everything a foldable phone should be in 2023, plus a little more. Oppo Find N2 Flip was just released on December 23rd, 2022, and in our view, it is yet to be refined to become the best..thus, we term it ‘the best after the best’.
Our understanding of ‘foldable phones’ is that it includes both flip and fold phones. The flip phones fold vertically while the fold phones fold horizontally. As such, please do not confuse ‘Flip Foldable’ as to mean ‘Fold Foldable’. Thanks.
Oppo Find N2 Flip Foldable Phone Review
The Flexion Hinge
For starters, the Oppo Find N2 Flip is a much better flip phone with a Flexion hinge touchscreen whose hinge is much sturdier and has a less conspicuous crease on the touchscreen itself. In contrast, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4’s hinge is less refined and has a huge and very conspicuous crease on the touchscreen. What this translates to is a foldable Oppo Find N2 Flip whose hinge is almost the embodiment of perfection, since it can slant and be tilted to any angle beyond 45 degrees.
The Oppo Find N2 Flip vs The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4
Oppo Find N2 Flip’s Hinge vs The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4’s Hinge
Essentially, you can place Oppo Find N2 Flip in any folded position at any angle from 45 degrees to 120 degrees. The Galaxy Z Flip, on the other hand, has a friction channel hinge that forces a shut or open state when you try to place or tilt it to an angle when open. The Find N2 Flip’s hinge also ensures that there is no space left in between the spaces when it is shut, unlike the Galaxy Z Flip 4’s which leaves a discernable gap.
The Impressive Software Tricks of the Oppo Find N2 Flip
The N2 Flip, on the screen being tilted and the phone ‘sat’ upright will split the top side screen to show the viewfinder (in the camera app) and the sitting or lower side screen showing all the options including the shutter button, etc; allowing for camcorder style video recording.
This also happens on YouTube when you’re watching a video. On ‘sitting’ the phone upright, the top side is fully occupied by the video while the bottom side is taken up by the controls. This is a very clever and thoughtful software trick that makes the phone’s foldability that much more useful.
A Bigger Cover Screen on the Oppo Find N2 Flip
Another feature that makes Oppo Find N2 Flip worth the hype is its huge 3.26 inches cover screen that tops the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4’s 1.9-inch cover screen. Even more, the Oppo Find N2 Flip’s cover screen is placed vertically, as opposed to the Z Flip 4’s that’s placed horizontally. The result is a much more practical and usable cover screen on the Oppo Find N2 Flip with the Z Flip 4’s paling in comparison.
Available Widgets and Functionalities on Oppo Find N2 Flip’s Cover Screen
The cover screen of the Oppo Find N2 Flip is very useful and has capabilities for a standby screen that is mostly occupied by your chosen wallpaper. On this screen, you can swipe down for quick toggles for Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, etc. You can also swipe up to see notifications. You’ll be able to see quite a number of notifications thanks to the relatively big screen.
Available Cover Screen Faces on the Find N2 Flip
On flipping right you’ll see camera widgets for Photo, portrait, and video. Flipping right again will produce a weather widget, followed by a timer. You can also add an earbuds widget that lets you connect your wireless earbuds and another screen face for the voice recorder. The Oppo Find N2 Flip’s cover screen also allows for quick replies that enable you to reply to messages on the cover screen without opening the phone up.
The Limitations of the Oppo Find N2 Flip
The Limitations of the Find N2 Flip’s Cover Screen
The functionalities of the Find N2 Flip’s cover screen are somewhat limited and under-utilize the cover screen. Oppo has, however, said it’s working on expanding the capabilities of the cover screen and available widgets. The cover screen also currently doesn’t support third-party apps such as Uber and we hope it will soon.
Where the Galaxy Z Flip 4 Beats the Oppo Find N2 Flip
The Samsung Galaxy Z flip 4 is only better than the Oppo Find N2 Flip mostly in its waterproofing capabilities. Unlike the Z Flip 4, the N2 Flip is not ip6 water-resistant. The Oppo Find N2 Flip also lacks wireless charging, though it makes up for this with fast charging up to 44W.
Note that the charging cable that comes with the N2 Flip is 67W and charges the phone to 60% in 30 minutes and to full charge in just a little under an hour. Samsung’s Z Flip 4 supports wireless charging, in turn, making it a much better charging experience and it is relatively fast too.
The Strongpoints of the Oppo Find N2 Flip
The Oppo Find N2 Flip’s Humongous Battery
The Oppo Find N2 Flip comes with a humongous Li-Po 4300mAh battery that is, to date, the biggest battery on a flip foldable phone. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4, for instance, only comes with a 3700mAh battery that pales in comparison.
What this means is that potentially the Oppo Find N2 Flip has better battery life. Current tests indicate that it can support up to 27hrs of 3G talk time, 15hrs of web browsing, and 19hrs video playback. This is very satisfactory and could translate to almost a day of battery charge for heavy all-rounded use. The battery also supports SUPERVOOC fast charging up to 44W.
The Oppo Find N2 Flip’s Memory
The Oppo Find N2 Flip comes with 8GB RAM and up to 512GB ROM Storage. The phone does not have a micro-SD slot, however. Despite this, 8 gigs of RAM are sufficient for such a phone, as is 256 GB of RAM which is the lowest memory variant available. You can only get the phone in 256GB or 512GB variants.
The Oppo Find N2 Flip’s Processor and the Phone’s Gaming Capabilities
The Oppo Find N2 Flip has a MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ processor that is better at heat management as compared to a Snapdragon chip of the same capability. The Dimensity 9000+ is bested by the Snapdragon equivalent in performance but is by no means a lower quality or less powerful processor. On the Oppo Find N2 Flip, the Mediatek Dimensity 9000+ plays games fluidly, has beautiful on-game graphics, and will only show a little bit of weakness when the settings are all maxed out.
The Oppo Find N2 Flip’s Camera
The Oppo Find N2 Flip comes with three cameras. A 50MP f/1.8 main camera that is 23mm wide, an 8MP f/2.2 Ultrawide camera, and a 32MP f/2.4 Selfie Camera. The rear main camera is capable of shooting 4K video at 30fps. Note that shooting 4K video is impossible while using the cover screen as a viewfinder.
The Oppo Find N2 Flip’s Cover Screen as a Viewfinder
The Oppo Find N2 Flip’s cover screen is wildly useful when using it as a viewfinder. A big reason for this is the cover screen’s satisfactorily big size and its upright (vertical) stature. Moreover, the N2 Flip’s cover screen can be used as the camera’s viewfinder and display what the camera is capturing, allowing those being photographed to see their placement within the shot.
The Wildly Usefulness of the Cover Screen of the Oppo Find N2 Flip
The cover screen can also be used to take a selfie with the back camera while the phone is closed. This way, you can take photos and even selfies with the cover screen as a viewfinder and guide, showing you the shot being captured. Its upright stance again comes in very handy.
The Oppo Find N2 Flip’s Photo Quality
The photo quality of all three Oppo Find N2 Flip cameras is oddly very good. Well, not as good as the Galaxy Z flip 4 or the Pixel 7 but really good. Here’s a breakdown of how each of the cameras performs in terms of photo quality.
Main Camera
The main camera of the Oppo Find N2 Flip takes crisp photos and outputs them in 12MP. They are really good photos with good dynamic range (HDR). The camera’s photos aren’t as colorful as you’d find on a Samsung flagship phone but they are color-balanced in a good way that they’ll still capture color naturally.
Low-Light Performance
In low-light scenarios, the main camera automatically goes into Auto Low Light which is a mode that improves the processing of images taken in low light, with the camera doing its best to capture clear and crisp photos. We are delighted with the good job the camera does in low light and also the dynamic range of the photos it produces.
The Ultrawide Camera
The Ultrawide camera on the Oppo Find N2 Flip is also well-performing and has good enough images. It doesn’t do as well when it comes to 4K video, however, and sometimes also has some noise in photos taken in low light. Similar to the main camera, it jumps into Auto Low Light in low-light situations but struggles with dynamic range and capturing details as well as we’d expect.
The Selfie Camera
The Oppo Find N2 Flip’s selfie camera is beyond decent and shoots some impeccable photos that ensure a natural skin tone and good capturing of light. The camera does a really good job at taking still photos and comes boosted by Hasselbad’s image processing capabilities and Oppo’s own MariSilicon X chip that improves low-light photography and HDR processing.
The Oppo Find N2 Flip’s Screen
The Oppo Find N2 Flip’s screen is a Foldable LTPO AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. The screen has powerful dark blacks and wonderful color contrast as the AMOLED display switches off pixels on the spots where it’s supposed to show black color. The display achieves a max brightness of 1600nits, ensuring that you’ll be able to comfortably read elements on the screen even when outdoors in bright sunlight.
The Oppo Find N2 Flip’s Operating System and Software Updates
The N2 Flip comes with ColorOS 13 which is Oppo’s reimagining of Android 13. ColorOS 13 keeps getting better and better and sits on the impeccable Android 13. Oppo has even gone a step further and promised 4 years of ColorOS updates and 5 years of security updates. That is amazing and makes the N2 Flip that much more of a worthy buy.
Oppo Find N2 Flip Connectivity
The Oppo Find N2 Flip supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3, and LTE but also comes with 5G capability and is among the first phones where you can insert two 5G sim cards. The 5G Dual Sim capability is a game changer as it means that you can now have two 5G Sim cards working on the same device. For instance, you can have a separate 5G Sim for your personal number and another for your work number at the same time on the Oppo Find N2 Flip.
Oppo Find N2 Flip Price and Color Variants
The Oppo Find N2 Flip is priced around $1000 and comes with a charger cable, charging brick, and a plastic phone cover that is split into the upper side cover and lower side cover. You can get the N2 Flip in a Black Matte color option with additional grip, a rare gold color, or the glossy Moonlit Purple variant with a glass finish on the back.
