Against the Ice is a 2022 movie that is based on a true story about a 1909 polar expedition where two men go to the ends of the arctic to recover the findings of a former expedition. Captain Ejnar Mikkelsen, played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and his volunteer partner Iver Iversen, played by Joe Cole, go against all odds to undertake what is not only a deadly but also fiercely cold mission on the polar caps.
Freezing Conditions
Ejnar and Iver are determined to find the findings made by the Denmark expedition, that unfortunately succumbed to the freezing conditions. After one of Ejnar’s men loses his toes due to permafrost, none of his men are willing to volunteer to accompany him on yet another attempt at finding the evidence gathered by the Denmark expedition. However, Iver Iversen, a mechanic for the crew, volunteers and accompanies Ejnar on his expedition. The remaining men are instructed to wait till August for the pair to return but they instead leave.
Perseverance
Captain Ejnar and Iver go through hell. They have to sacrifice one of their sleigh dogs once in a while to feed the others. They are sometimes caught up in freezing snowstorms and have to persevere to reach the terrible cold to their goal. They even come across a humongous bear and have to fight it to the death as it is itself hungry for meat as they are. Even so, they get back to camp only to find that their crew ditched them and gave up when their ship was wrecked by the ice. They now have to wait till the ice melts and for a ship that is passing by to rescue them.
