Diego Armando Maradona (pictured above) passed on yesterday, the 25th of November 2020, in Buenos Aires at the age of 60 after suffering a fatal heart attack. Diego Maradona was more than a football legend but an icon in the sport. Maradona was instrumental in the 1986 World Cup win for Argentina. He was a talent like no other in football and will remain a legend even in his passing.

Maradona Had Been Suffering Ill Health

Diego Maradona retired from professional football in the 1990s and went into coaching. He was coaching Argentina Primera Division club, Gimnasia de Plata, and had coached Mexican side Dorados before being announced the head coach of Gimnasia de Plata late last year. Maradona had been suffering ill health and was just out of the hospital in mid-November after surgery to remove a blood clot on his brain. The blood clot was discovered after Maradona was admitted to the hospital on 2nd November after complaining of low moods and fatigue.

A World in Mourning

The football world is shocked and there has been an outpouring of mourning for the loss of the star. Diego Maradona was a player like no other and had started his football career in Argentino Juniors before his 1981 move to Boca Juniors. He also played for FC Barcelona, S.S.C Napoli, and Sevilla FC. Diego Maradona was not only a skilled player but also a refined tactician and manager. He led numerous teams to league victories including victories in the Serie A while coaching in Sao Paulo. Diego suffered a heart attack in Buenos Aires, and his doctors could not resuscitate him. He had been of ill health, even as his representatives had downplayed the seriousness of his illness.

The Golden Boy

Diego Maradona will remain a legend, and the ‘golden boy’, even in passing, and will always be one of the best football players ever. He was widely known for his ‘hand of god’ goal and the controversy around his life. He had struggled with drug abuse and even suffered an overdose in 2000, and a heart attack in 2004. Some even christened him half-angel, half-devil. Maradona was to be treated for alcohol dependency. He was a force to be reckoned with and his legendary stature will live on. May his soul rest in peace.

Rest in Glory Maradona!

We wish his family, friends, and fans comfort and offer our deepest condolences. The Argentinian legend’s personality and his love for the game will continue to inspire generations of football players the world over. In the words of Pep Guardiola, Manchester City Coach, “it doesn’t matter what you did in your life Diego, it matters what you did for our lives”.

Rest In Peace Diego Maradona! A legend like no other! ⚽️
