The last of the UCL Round of 16 Leg 2 matches have been played and Real Madrid and Napoli have proceeded to the UEFA Champions League Quarterfinals, as Liverpool failed to correct their Leg 1 mistakes. What this means is that Liverpool are now out of the UEFA Champions League and Real Madrid now move closer to defending their title.
A Painful Goal for Benzema
Real Madrid beat Liverpool 1-0 in the UCL Round of 16 Leg 2 match today, bumping up their lead to 6-2 on aggregate. The goal was a beautiful dual effort by Vinicius Jr. and Benzema, where Vini Jr. passed Benzema the ball when seated, and Benzema, despite a run-in with van Dijk, put it in. The pain from the challenge by the Liverpool defender then kicked in as he celebrated his goal.
Real had beaten Liverpool 5-2 in their Leg 1 match and Liverpool failed to correct those mistakes, despite a whole ninety minutes to try and recoup their huge Leg 1 loss. You can read the UCL Round of 16 Leg 1 Results below.
2022 UCL Final Rerun: A Liverpool that is Out of Luck
We feel bad for Liverpool for how unlucky they’ve become this season. Their game today mirrored the 2022 UCL Final where they lost out to Real Madrid and Madrid lifted the league trophy. You can imagine a Liverpool that was last season in the UEFA Champions League Final has now been taken out of the league in the Knockout Stage. What a terrible run for Liverpool. We wish them all the best and mind you, today’s game against Real Madrid was Firmino’s last UCL game for Liverpool and we would have wished that it go better for him. All in all, take heart, Liverpool. 🙁
Napoli Beat Eintracht Frankfurt to Secure a Spot in the UEFA Champions League Quarterfinals
Napoli today went on to beat Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0 to secure themselves a spot at the UCL Quarterfinals. They had beaten Eintracht 2-0 in their Round of 16 Leg 1 match and topped up with three goals to secure their 5-0 lead on aggregate. As such, they cruise steadily to the quarterfinals as Eintracht Frankfurt drop out. Napoli’s goals in today’s game included a brace by Victor Osimhen and a goal by Piotr Zielinski who converted a penalty.
