Man United 2:0 Sunderland: Is the Manchester United of Old Back?

EPL Gameweek 7 was finally played this weekend with Spurs pulling off an impressive, impressive (reiterating much) win against Liverpool. Things went awry, however, for Man United who got their behinds handed to them by Crystal Palace. Even more, in what was a shocking turn of events, Defending Champions and until now unbeaten Man City got nicked by a furious Wolves, giving them an itch back there. Here’s how EPL GW 7 went down.

It’s a Spurs Weekend! Tottenham Nick Liverpool in a Spectacular Matchup

Of all the games that needed watching this weekend, we were in bated breath awaiting the clash of the two legends: Spurs and Liverpool. Tottenham have been showing their canines of late but their head-to-head with Liverpool was the match to either confirm or deny their newly-found prowess under coach Ange Postecoglou.

Son of a… COYS!

Son quickly opened the scoring for Tottenham, by again being in the right place at the right time, putting in a spectacular tap-in in the 36th minute. Liverpool weren’t to be left behind and just before halftime, Cody Gakpo put them level with a spectacular strike in 45 + 4’. Gakpo had been injured moments before, but quickly put two and two together, equalizing beautifully for ‘The Reds’.

Double Reds for Liverpool

Things kicked off on a low for Liverpool in the game, however, as Liverpool’s Curtis Jones was shown a red card for a bad foul against Spurs’ Bissouma in the 26th minute. As if in some twisted twist of fate, Liverpool’s Diogo Jota, who’d come on as Gakpo’s substitute, was sent off in the 69th minute.’

Day from Hell for Klopp: Own Goal Denies Liverpool a Point Against Spurs

In what must have felt like a day from hell for Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool’s Joel Matip scored an own goal in 90 + 6’, well into stoppage time, handing Spurs their much-coveted victory. The game ended 2-1 in favor of Spurs. Liverpool did play well but they lacked fervor and aggressiveness which were what Spurs flourished in.

Oh Man! This Man Ange Postecoglou!

None was prouder of Spurs’ win than their new coach Ange Postecoglou. Oh man! This man Ange Postecoglou is a beast! I mean, the Spurs of today is as incomparable as heaven and earth to the one of last season. Ange, it seems, was a heavensend for Tottenham and boy is he doing the thing! We are so so proud of how he’s turned the team around and we are now even seeing the possibility of Tottenham contending for the League Title this season.

Not Yet ten Hag! Crystal Palace Nick Man United

Perhaps another coach who was having a day from down under, Man United’s Erik ten Hag was displeased, to say the least, with their 1-0 defeat by Crystal Palace. Joachim Andersen put Crystal ahead in the 27th minute, with Man United failing to muster up some oomph to at least put in an equalizer.

The Decline of Manchester United

We’ve spoken a lot about Manchester United’s decline, ever since the days of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Man United seem stuck in hell and unable, unwilling, or unmotivated enough to get themselves out of the annals of darkness. Erik ten Hag, albeit seeming to have a hold on the situation, has consistently lacked enough push to kick the boys in the behind and have them score some goals. Whatever Man United needs, whoever knows, may as well be prayers. As a fan, I am in terrible awe!

An Itch for Man City as Wolves Nick the Defending Champions in a Shocking Turn of Events

Before even going into this game, I want to say that Manchester City are a formidable, formidable team. They, however, got an itch yesterday after their unbeaten run was brought to a halt by a furious Wolverhampton Wanderers. Wolves brought on the heat similar to the rage that made Rodri almost choke Nottm’s Gibbs-White.

Own Goal and No Second Goal

Things started unraveling when City’s Ruben Dias scored an own goal as early as the 13th minute, with City seemingly out of their form. Julian Alvarez then went on to correct the error, scoring a goal in the 58th minute. His efforts, as it turned out, were not that effective as Wolves’ Hwang Hee-Chan scored their second and winning goal in the 66th minute. The game ended 2-1 in favor of Wolves.

What’s Up Pep?

The taste this loss left in our mouth was one of confusion. How on earth did City lose this one? Were they all at a party and had some bad biscuits or what on earth allowed City to have their behinds handed to them? Weren’t they the team that won the glorious treble just last season and a treble that they celebrated for more than a month, for that matter? Mr. Pep.. what’s not popping???

Six for Villa, One for Brighton

In what was the funniest result in EPL GW 7, Aston Villa beat a previously tough Brighton a whopping 6-1. I mean, Brighton only managed a single reply goal in a game that had plenty of time, which for Villa allowed them to score 6 good goals.

An Ollie Hattrick

Ollie Watkins was on fire for Villa, going on to score a hattrick. He scored his first goal in a while last week but was on to add three more this gameweek. Ollie put in his first in the 14th minute, the second in the 21st minute, and topped them off with a cherry third in the 65th minute. A Pervis Estupinan own goal had, by now, already put Villa one ahead in the 26th minute.

Ansu Fati had also put in Brighton’s only goal in the 50th minute. Villa had not had enough, however, with Jacob Ramsey netting in Villa’s fifth in the 85th minute. Douglas Luiz took his time, and capped Aston Villa’s lead with their sixth goal in 90 + 7’.

Quadruple Arteta: Arsenal Nick Bournemouth 4-0

Arsenal were on fuego yesterday, as they went on to beat Bournemouth 4-0. Bukayo Saka opened the scoring in the 17th minute, before two consecutive penalties, the first converted by Martin Odegaard in the 44th minute, and the second by Kai Havertz in the 53rd minute. Ben White then put the icing on top with his 90 + 3’ goal.

Arteta, The Man!

Arteta is pushing on in his fantastic run, as Arsenal beat Brentford 1-0 in the EFL on Wednesday. He’s become so Arsenal in a way that I now feel that there’s no Arsenal without Arteta. He’s doing a very good job at the club and I can’t wait to see him and the team contend for the Premier League title.

Newcastle Nick Burnley After Kicking Manchester City Off the EFL

Newcastle have been on a high as they kicked Man City off the EFL Cup on Wednesday with a 1-0 win, before now beating Burnley 2-0 in EPL GW 7. Alexander Isak scored Newcastle’s winning goal against City mid-week and then came on to score the second and winning goal for Newcastle against Burnley, after he converted a 76th-minute penalty. Miguel Almiron scored Newcastle’s first goal in the 14th minute.

First Ever Premier League Victory for Luton Town

Newly promoted Luton Town won what was their first-ever Premier League victory after they beat Everton 2-1. Dominic Calvert-Lewin opened the scoring for Everton in the 14th minute but his efforts were too little for a very eager Luton. Tom Lockyer scored the opening goal for Luton in the 24th minute, before Carlton Morris scored their second and winning goal in the 31st minute. All we can say is Congratulations Luton Town and you are now officially welcome to the English Premier League. Hooray!

Other EPL GW 7 Matches

West Ham Nick Sheffield United

On their part, West Ham continued an okay run with a 2-0 victory against Sheffield United. Jarrod Bowen opened the scoring for ‘The Hammers’ in the 24th minute, before Tomas Soucek put in their second and winning goal in the 37th minute.

Brentford Draw Nottm Forest

Brentford, in a continuation of their stagnation, drew Nottm Forest 1-1 today, in what was a thrilling encounter. Christian Norgaard opened the scoring for Brentford in the 58th minute with Nottm’s Nicolas Dominguez equalizing in the 65th minute. Both Brentford and Nottm have been stagnant, perhaps in the process of maturing as Premier League clubs, having only been promoted in the last few seasons.

We’ll end this post here for now, and add the results of the games yet to be played at a later time.
